The Power of Your Intention

Do something brave, courageous, and loyal to yourself: Set an intention. Set an intention for your yoga practice. For your day. For a meeting with your boss. For free time with your family. For any time that you need yourself to be your # 1 support. An intention helps you be present. It helps you show up for yourself and others. So do your life a favor, and set an intention.

Have you ever started your day feeling scattered, unfocused, and lacking direction? Setting an intention can be a powerful practice to bring clarity and purpose to your daily life.

An intention is simply a guiding principle or aim you set for yourself. It's different from a goal, which is a specific target or achievement. An intention is more about embodying a certain mindset or way of being.

When you set an intention, you plant a seed of purpose that can profoundly shape your thoughts, words, and actions throughout the day. It acts as a touchstone to return to when you feel off track or overwhelmed.

Here are some of the benefits of setting a daily intention:

1. Increased Focus and Productivity

Having a clear intention helps you prioritize what's important and filter out distractions. You'll be able to channel your energy more effectively towards what really matters.

2. Greater Mindfulness and Presence

An intention brings you into the present moment and makes you more conscious of your state of mind. You'll find yourself less caught up in regrets about the past or anxiety about the future.

3. A Sense of Empowerment

When you proactively set an intention, you take control of the direction of your life rather than being buffeted by circumstances outside your control. This cultivates a stronger internal locus of control.

4. Living in Alignment with Your Values

Choosing an intention that honors your core values leads to a greater sense of integrity and wholeness. You'll make choices that are congruent with who you truly are.

The process of setting an intention is simple but powerful. Spend a few minutes each morning getting clear about how you want to show up and what really matters to you that day. It could be an intention of patience, compassion, courage, playfulness, or anything that calls to you.

Then, return to that intention throughout the day by setting periodic reminders. Notice when your thoughts and actions stray from that intention, and gently bring yourself back.

With regular practice, setting an intention can become a transformative habit that helps you live with more purpose, presence, and authenticity each day.
