Summertime is my all-time favorite season, as it brings long sunny days, warm temperatures, and a feeling of freedom in the air. It's the perfect time to get outside, try new activities, and create lasting memories with friends and family. However, the summer months always seem to fly by too quickly. This year, make a conscious effort to savor every moment by following these tips for making the most of summertime.
Get Outside as Much as Possible
After being cooped up indoors all winter or during rainstorms in the spring, summer is a great opportunity to spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors. Go for morning walks or runs, have picnics in the park, read a book lounging in the backyard, or plan day trips to lakes, hiking trails, or other outdoor destinations. Exposure to natural light and fresh air is incredibly refreshing and rejuvenating.
Try New Activities
Summer's relaxed pace allows you to step out of your normal routine and try activities you don't have time for the rest of the year. Take a weekend road trip to a nearby city you've never explored. Sign up for an outdoor adventure like whitewater rafting, ziplining, or rock climbing. Try a new sport outside, like disc golf or pickleball. Take a cooking, dance, or art class. Pushing yourself to try new experiences will create wonderful memories.
Spend Quality Time with Loved Ones
Between work, school, and other activities, it can be hard to get quality time with friends and family during other seasons. But summer's slower pace means more opportunities for bonding. Plan a weekend getaway with your friends, have nightly barbecues or backyard fire pits with your family, or make a tradition of weekly game nights. Prioritizing loved ones will help you create special shared experiences.
Unplug and Relax
While it's tempting to fill every summer minute with activities and social plans, it's also important to take time to truly relax and recharge. Set aside time to unplug from digital devices, turn off your work brain, and just enjoy some peace and quiet. Read books, take naps outdoors, practice yoga, meditate, or simply sit and enjoy the feeling of a warm summer breeze. You'll return to your regular routine feeling refreshed.
Summer is a precious and fleeting few months, so make the most of every sun-soaked day. Get outside, try new adventures, spend quality time with loved ones, and don't forget to take time to relax and recharge. Before you know it, the crisp autumn winds will blow in - so savor the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer while you can!
Namaste,
